The Ultimate Gift Guide

It is finally the most wonderful time of the year! I love decorating the tree, wrapping presents and watching all of my favorite Christmas movies like Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. Did I mention eating all of the cookies and candy canes in sight?

However, now that I am in college, the holidays seem just a little less cheery. Between walking in blustery conditions to class and cramming for four back-to-back finals, I nearly forget to enjoy the season. To remind myself, I have been trying to listen to my favorite Christmas tunes while studying and I even put up a miniature tree in my room.

But in just one week, finals will be over and I can finally focus on celebrating the season with my friends and family!  Here is my gift guide for all of the fabulous gals in your life (and you may want to add some of these to your own Christmas list...).

For the lady:

Gift Guide: For the Lady
SHOP: J. Crew turtleneck // Halogen heels // American Atelier jewelry box // Kendra Scott earrings
H&M skirt // Argento Vivo monogram necklace // Voluspa candle // Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume // Nila Anthony faux fur keychain

Perfect for the girliest-girl you know, seek out sparkly accessories and candy-colored sweaters to make their holiday sweet.

For the prep:

Gift Guide: For the Prep

SHOP: Tory Burch suede riding boots // J. Crew cashmere sweater
J. Crew Factory plaid skirt // Kiel James Patrick pearl necklace // Brooks Brothers perfume // Daniel Wellington watch // Annabel Ingall tote

You can't go wrong with any of these timeless classics — look for well-made items that will last her for years to come.

For the minimalist:

Gift Guide: For the Minimalist
SHOP: Kate Spade watch // M. Gemi suede black flats // H&M infinity scarf // Illesteva sunglasses
H&M sweater // H&M leather leggings // J. Crew Factory coat

For the coolest girl you know, stick to neutrals and clean lines, and stay away from busy patterns. Give her a gift better than Santa himself with a sharp-looking watch or black shades.

For the explorer:

Gift Guide: For the Explorer
SHOP: H&M flannel shirt // H&M jeans // Madewell weekend bag // Timex watch
Metal marquee letter // Chup socks // Jeffrey Campbell boots

For the girl who makes every day an adventure, whether its traveling, hiking or just exploring new parts of town, give the gift of function and fashion — with durable, vintage-inspired items that can withstand her lifestyle.

For the athlete:

Gift Guide: For the Athlete
SHOP: Zella leggings // Nike vest // Lululemon backpack // Fitbit watch
Happy Plugs headphones // NutriBullet blender // Nike Roshe shoes // S'well water bottle

All of these items are perfect for the girl who doesn't need a New Year's Resolution to head to the gym. I'm especially obsessed with the S'well water bottle, which comes in a variety of stylish hues and patterns.

What are your favorite gifts to give during the holiday season?

Instagram lately...

Shop this look: H&M denim dress // Cole Haan riding boots (similar)

Wow October has been such as busy month! Between writing articles for the school newspaper (check out some of my current work here and here) and midterm tests and papers, I have barely had time to think! Luckily, Instagram has helped me keep up with my blog — I took the above picture with a spare two minutes between work and class last week. Here's what else has been on my Insta feed lately...

Shop this look: J. Crew hat (similar) // Free People sweater (similar) // J. Crew Factory vest

Hats are my go-to on busy days. They add a sporty vibe to any outfit — and help me get away with not doing my hair!

Shop this look: Lisi Lerch orange tassel earrings

This picture captures two of my favorite things about fall. The candy corn are pretty self-explanatory because they are delicious and my favorite seasonal treat, while the earrings represent a new exciting opportunity I received in September. I am now a campus rep for Lisi Lerch, an adorable jewelry brand, famous for its statement tassel earrings and other high-quality costume jewelry. Be on the lookout for more posts featuring Lisi Lerch because I am officially obsessed!

Shop this look: TJ Maxx red suede dress (similar) // Daniel Wellington watch //
Franco Sarto booties (similar)

I am OBSESSED with deep shades of red like burgundy and marsala this season. The hue makes a bold statement in an elegant way, especially on a sumptuous, suede mini-dress or on your nails (or both, if you love the color as much as me!).

Shop this look: Target shearling vest // Target striped knit top // J. Brand jeans //
Mark and Graham monogram necklace // Longchamp tote

Target has done it again — I have been searching for the perfect shearling vest for ages and finally, I stumbled upon this furry pick. I love how the neutral color goes with nearly all of my fall sweaters and the reasonable price sure doesn't hurt either!

Great Outdoors

Shop this look: Forever 21 flannel dress // Felt hat (similar here) // Tory Burch bag
Vince Camuto booties // Mark & Graham monogram necklace

Okay, so these pictures weren't exactly taken in "the great outdoors." It is just my backyard! But as the fall season is in full swing, I find myself wanting to spend as much time outdoors as possible — whether it be at a bonfire, picking pumpkins or even just admiring the changing colors of the leaves. I'm loving this outfit because it echoes earthy, autumn shades like red, green and brown. And of course, it helps that this flannel dress is super comfy, warm and only $22.90!!

Fall Uniform + Bucket List

Shop this look: J. Crew plaid shirt // Joe's Jeans white pants //
Vince Camuto booties // Louis Vuitton purse

Happy fall everyone!! This outfit is basically my uniform for the season. I love how a plaid button-up tucked into jeans with booties is so easy yet polished. Since the sunny, summer weather is still sticking around in Illinois, I opted for white jeans paired with dark brown accessories for the perfect transitional weather look. What is your go-to fall outfit?

Also, I was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Southern Curls & Pearls, to create a fall bucket list! She made this adorable template, which you can download here.

Fall Florals

Shop this look: French Connection dress (similar here and here) // Mark and Graham necklace
Daniel Wellington watch // Vince Camuto wedges // Tory Burch bag

Happy September everyone! This is an exciting post because it is my first fall fashion look and it is the debut of my new blog design courtesy of 17th Avenue Designs! My friend Elise took my pictures and we had so much fun exploring and shooting in a used bookstore.

One of my favorite ways to transition from warm weather to cold weather is with a floral dress paired with fall accessories like the deep green bag and strappy taupe wedges shown above. While florals may seem summery, this dress transitions perfectly because of its deep navy and magenta colors. For more early fall inspo, check out the items below!

Classroom Chic

Shop this look: Eighty Sixty dress // Madewell necklace (similar) //
Dolce Vita espadrille wedges // Rebecca Minkoff bag

I may be back at school but I am still holding onto summer with this fun outfit! I love this patterned dress because it is so versatile. Earlier in the day, I wore it with slip-on sneakers and minimal jewelry to class. Later, I piled on some jewelry, a statement bag and espadrille wedges to make the dress transition into a night-out look.

Here are my other back-to-school must-haves:

1. Madewell tee

Shop this shirt: Madewell Slub V-Neck Pocket Tee

I am OBSESSED with this comfy shirt! I already have it in a few colors and it is a great basic that you can dress up in down. I wear it tucked into a nice shirt, with jeans as shown above and even with workout shorts and yoga pants. Not to mention it is only $17.99-$25 depending on the color. (STYLE TIP: I bought this shirt in a size larger than I normally would for a looser fit!)

2. Stylish sneaks

Shop these shoes: Converse sneakers, Splendid slip-ons and Nike running shoes

I walk to all of my classes so these sneakers keep me comfortable but stylish. Plus, the grey, navy and black colors go with everything!

3. And last but not least, a perfectly coordinated room with my BFF!

Be on the lookout for new outfit posts and fall fashion inspo soon!

Blue Crush

Currently wearing:

Shop this look: Veronicam dress // Nordstrom bangle (similar) // Zara sandals
Rebecca Minkoff bag // Madewell necklace

I am loving this simple navy dress because there are so many ways to style it! You can add a colorful, lightweight scarf and a fedora for a day of shopping, or dress it up for work with a classy pearl necklace and nude pumps. Here, I styled it with a gold, lariat-style necklace, edgy bag (I love how the two blues complement each other!) and sparkly sandals for a relaxed yet refined dinner look.

Currently craving:

A brown butter almond brittle and wildberry lavender ice cream cone from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. I went home to STL for the Fourth of July weekend and while there, I went to dinner in the Central West End with friends. We stumbled upon Jeni's (389 N. Euclid) and are officially obsessed with its unique flavors and inviting atmosphere. Upon returning to Chicago, I discovered there are two Jeni's locations in Southport and Wicker Park! I will definitely be making another trip soon.

And of course, when I discovered that Sprinkles Cupcakes (50 E. Walton) introduced #theSprinkle cupcake in honor of their 10th anniversary, I took a cab there right after work! Anyone who knows me understands my obsession with sprinkles and birthday cake-flavored things — and this sweet treat was no exception.

Currently reading:

"Little Bee" by Chris Cleave. Well, technically, I finished it in a day — that's how great it was. I could give you a summary but I don't want to spoil the story. I will say it is a book that really put into perspective what I think my "problems" are, and what some people in the world actually face on a day-to-day basis. Read it and thank me later!

Currently coveting:

Everything Kendra Scott! Scott's jewelry line adds a classy pop of color to any outfit. I just bought the Elle Earrings in Periwinkle, and I love that the translucent blue color goes with nearly everything! Next on my list is this magenta statement necklace.
